Apple Retail Store Garage

When Apple decided to expand their store at the Providence Place Mall, they noticed the entire garage was treated with K-13. The question was could they still use K-13 to achieve an R-30. The answer was yes. Utilizing the “High Build” application technique, stick pins were applied to the substrate and 4” of Tan K-13 was applied. Structalath was then attached with the use of washers preparing it for the final coat of 4” of White K-13. With an aesthetic coating applied over the beams for a thermal break, the application is complete.

Providence Place Mall

Once again the Providence Place Mall in Providence Rhode Island chooses K-13 Spray-on Insulation. When originally built 18 years ago, the garage received the K-13 thermal treatment to provide warm floors for the comfort of the shoppers above. In this recent renovation for Nordstrom, an additional 50,000 square feet of White K-13 has been applied to provide an R-11 along with a Noise Reduction Coefficient of 1.05.

Education First Garage

Not only did Education First select K-13 for the thermal insulation in the garage and retail areas, but also for the entire 10 floors as the interior finish for acoustical performance. The monolithic application provides a uniform, no maintenance finish which will ensure the comfort of office workers and shoppers alike. The application of K-13 also maximizes ceiling height clearances in the garage area, which is always a concern.

Maintaining ceiling heights is always a concern in parking garages. K-13 is not only able to provide comfortable floors for residents and retailers above, but is also applied directly to the fluted metal deck maximizing ceiling clearances. Safe, economical and maintenance free, K-13 offers a Class “A” noncombustible finish and does not require any additional coatings for smoke and fire spread ratings as do expandable foam materials.

The K-13, with its unrivaled bond strength and Class 1 Classification, made it the perfect choice for long term, care free performance for the building owners and operators. While there are other spray materials that are always offered, the durability and performance of K-13 always wins out.

Back in the garage for the Patriots. Over 500,000 board feet of K-13 Tan was applied in under 6 weeks offering tremendous value engineering along with monolithic thermal performance. K- 13 is a class “A” noncombustible and does not require additional fire coatings to remain exposed. A recent car fire at the Providence Place Mall Parking Garage left the fire department commenting that the K-13 had out performed the cementitious fireproofing that was in place.

Performance meets function with this application of Tan K-13 at the Residences at Rivers Edge. No broken ceiling tiles, no fiberglass batts that have been moved and not returned to the proper place creating a freezing plenum space, and no complaints of a cold floors. Cube 3 once again taps K-13 as the thermal insulation in a below grade parking garage. Not only did the K-13 provide a monolithic high performance thermal barrier, but provided the additional ceiling height that was necessary.

Flame Spread of 5, Smoke Development of 5, Class "A" Noncombustible K-13 gets tapped for the below grade garage at the new Fan Pier Development. With the rapid rise of expandable foam products, which carry Smoke Development figures of over 450 and concerns of Flame Spread, K-13 stands alone. Providing matching R-values, along with higher durability and superior aesthetics, K-13 does not require expensive and unproven fire delay coatings.

A drop ceiling with fiberglass batts atop may provide a degree of higher aesthetics, but when it comes to thermal performance this application of 3" of K-13 Spray-On Insulation can not be beat. NO moisture problems, NO cold floor complaints, NO gaps in the insulation from maintenance workers not replacing the fiberglass, and total access to all through floor mechanicals. K-13 not only offers improved performance in this problem area, but the installed costs are less! K-13 Spray-On Insulation is clearly the choice for below structure parking areas.

Providence Courtyard Marriott Hotel

Dot the I's and clean the T's were the instructions at this new Marriott Hotel in Providence Rhode Island. K-13 Tan was applied at a minimum of 3" to achieve an R-Value of 13. The architect utilized the material to maximize head room and minimize heat loss. This reduced application of K-13 offered sizable cost savings over dropped ceilings with fiberglass batts, along with the benefits of a monolithic insulation between the precast concrete.
